Update

All is still quiet at the University of Texas at Dallas – no access to the labs or to my office – so I’ve been focusing on publications.

The files 28 chapters for the book ‘Practical Aspects of Medical Geology’ edited by Malcolm Siegel, Olle Selinus, and me have been sent to the publisher. We expect the galley proofs to be returned soon and that the book will be available at the end of the year or in early 2021.

Leah Thompson and I are making progress with the paper on the unusual mineralogy of a Siberian tonstein as is Nova Mahaffey and I with the paper on the extraordinary mineralogy of a single Keokuk geode. Both papers should be completed by the end of July.

I prepared an abstract for the GSA meeting (now on-line) on the potential health impacts of the uncontrolled fires in Jharia, India.

Working with several co-authors on a major paper on the modes of occurrence of elements in coal.

Also working with co-authors on a paper speculating on the environmental and human health impacts of the global shifts in coal use. An abstract has been submitted to the SEGH (https://segh.net/) for presentation in an on-line conference at the end of June. We are developing an abstract on the legacy of natural disasters for an SEGH on-line conference later this year.
